Jakey, 11.2hh Welsh Section A Gelding
Welsh section A 11.2hh gelding, 6 years old, Broken to ride but I think he would also make a brilliant driving pony. We bought Jakey as a lead rein pony for our two young daughters aged 2 and 5, both girls have ridden Jakes, and in his previous home he was ridden by two very young children on and off the lead rein. My girls have only ever hacked him out and he's been a star every time. We have only owned Jakes since September 2012, I wanted a pony that the girls could play with, groom and learn to put on and take off tack but it turns out Jakes is head shy and also seems wary of people he first meets. He doesn't like you near his ears and pulls his head back if you lift your hand by his head! In the right hands I'm confident Jakes would be the perfect pony, he just needs somebody that can handle him on a day to day basis to help build his confidence. After a couple of weeks of us owning Jakes his head shyness calmed down a lot, he was so much better than when we first bought him.
I believe he's been mistreated in the past and that is what has made him behave this way! He's not a nasty pony in any shape or form, he doesn't bite or kick out and loves a fuss, he really is a lovely boy and would be the perfect pony in the right hands, I just don't have the time to give to him having 3 children under 5 years old. He has done lots of shows in his previous home ( in hand and ridden) so he's very used to the trailer and loads fab. He's up to date with his wormer and he had his hoofs trimmed about 3 weeks ago. Please take into account I'm a first time horse/pony owner so don't have a lot of confidence, this probably doesn't help the situation with Jakes as Im sure if he had someone to handle him that new how cope with his head shyness he would be a lot better and go along way.
I wanted to be 100% honest as it's really unfair on the pony being past from pillar to post and if I had been told about Jakes head shyness before we bought him I simply wouldn't have bought him as it personally wasn't what we were looking for. If you haven't got the time for Jakes please don't get in touch as I'm not interested in time wasters. I want Jakes to go to a forever home that will give him everything he needs as he truly deserves a happy life as he is such a beautiful boy. Thank you for taking the time to read.
